The irony of thoughts

‘Another bastion of male chauvinism’, I thought seeing the man seated on the seat reserved for ladies only. Couldn’t he have the courtesy to stand up and offer me a seat even though I was standing besides him? I couldn’t possibly tell him to stand up and offer me a seat.

First of all I hate traveling by bus and secondly that too in a male crowded bus where it is impossible to avoid their gazes and the disgusting smell of armpits. Thinking of all the sadistic pleasure I could derive by slapping him on his face and making him the cynosure of embarrassment in this bus, I pursued my journey.

On my return journey the same day the damned thing happened again. This time I didn’t stand besides the man but right in front of him hoping that he would offer me the seat.

My haplessness doesn’t end up here. That day while I was walking back from my classes towards the bus stop, the whole sole of my shoe came off. I had to fill them in my already bulging bag. Coz of this the hot floor of the bus made it unbearable to stand. There was a boy, much resembling to teenage urchin who was gazing at me since the time I was in the bus.

Suddenly this feeling of insecurity gripped me. Just as I thought of going somewhere else and stand he said not to me but to the man who was sitting on the ladies seat, “ chalo utho bhai ye ladies seat hai.” And then turned towards me and said,”aap baithiye na”.

I reluctantly agreed since I thought I didn’t need his favor. His modesty didn’t end. When he got a seat and was barely seated for 5min he got up and offered his seat to an old lady who had just got in. I realised after all not all of the male crowd are chauvinists or MAYBE my bare foot had aroused modesty in him!!!

P.S. Based upon my true story..he he...not fiction...

common yaar ppl talk of equality of both the sexes in every field, then why still there reservations for women in buses, colleges and so on. i cud agree wid other things but its a high time that reservation in buses must be scrapped out. reservation should be made only to the aged and handicapped. and if u want somthin u hv to ask for it, that is the principle of this time. very well it was gr8.

if its just the question of seats its not right tht u blame the entire male community....first of all this reservation is all bullshit....if u speak bout equality then keepin reservations is a contradiction...secondly it enforces the opinion tht women r the weaker sex which is highly criticised by women revolutionaries:-).....anyway at least u got to kno that looks can b deceptive....keep postin true incidents....gl...

illogical feminism, or misunderstood "chauvinism"....which is stronger today? You decide!

its soooo obvious....

all the men who have commented on this post have criticised you "generalisation" of chauvinism.

and all the women have praised you like a goddess.

Lets just say that what Manisha learnt today was that - writing is one of the most politically biased modes of communication. It has no reason, no thought...just ideas and opinions built in one's head due to life's experiences.

Please do not generalise from here on. Not all women are whores, are they ? :-)

hey manisha i am strongly reminded of the poem we had in 9th/10th...i dont remember the title...
the poetess actually tells the man to get up from his seat and then realises that it was a mistake to do so,cos the man's foot was bleeding..
have u been inspired by that poem?

ahhh, this is one common experience.
this school i go to, does not have vans facility, so i haveta travel in a bus and stuff, sigh, what a pain, anyway.. this sorta thing happens every other day.
but frankly speakin, i dont think the whole guy-get-up-whn-women-enter crap is totally fair.
i mean, they got into the bus 1st, they sat, so yea, seat's their's!
only xceptions shld be if the woman is old or pregnant or sumthin like that.

:)
