The irony of thoughts
‘Another bastion of male chauvinism’, I thought seeing the man seated on the seat reserved for ladies only. Couldn’t he have the courtesy to stand up and offer me a seat even though I was standing besides him? I couldn’t possibly tell him to stand up and offer me a seat.
First of all I hate traveling by bus and secondly that too in a male crowded bus where it is impossible to avoid their gazes and the disgusting smell of armpits. Thinking of all the sadistic pleasure I could derive by slapping him on his face and making him the cynosure of embarrassment in this bus, I pursued my journey.
On my return journey the same day the damned thing happened again. This time I didn’t stand besides the man but right in front of him hoping that he would offer me the seat.
My haplessness doesn’t end up here. That day while I was walking back from my classes towards the bus stop, the whole sole of my shoe came off. I had to fill them in my already bulging bag. Coz of this the hot floor of the bus made it unbearable to stand. There was a boy, much resembling to teenage urchin who was gazing at me since the time I was in the bus.
Suddenly this feeling of insecurity gripped me. Just as I thought of going somewhere else and stand he said not to me but to the man who was sitting on the ladies seat, “ chalo utho bhai ye ladies seat hai.” And then turned towards me and said,”aap baithiye na”.
I reluctantly agreed since I thought I didn’t need his favor. His modesty didn’t end. When he got a seat and was barely seated for 5min he got up and offered his seat to an old lady who had just got in. I realised after all not all of the male crowd are chauvinists or MAYBE my bare foot had aroused modesty in him!!!
P.S. Based upon my true story..he he...not fiction...

yes u are right here.
not all male are chavnist.
though i wont say all but still der are lot of nice guys out there to so dont worry be happy.
AKASH
YOU SHOULD NOT WAIT THAT SOME1 WILL OFFER U A "SEAT"(TAKE "SEAT" WORD IN A DEEPER SENSE).WHAT IS UR U SHUD TAKE IT IF SOME 1 GRABBED IT FIGHT N HAVE IT.THE CHAVNIST FACTOR OF MALES IS NOT CONSIDERED HERE AS I THINK THATS IRIRELEVANT ATLEAST 4 THIS CONDITION.DEVENDRA
common yaar ppl talk of equality of both the sexes in every field, then why still there reservations for women in buses, colleges and so on. i cud agree wid other things but its a high time that reservation in buses must be scrapped out. reservation should be made only to the aged and handicapped. and if u want somthin u hv to ask for it, that is the principle of this time. very well it was gr8.
if its just the question of seats its not right tht u blame the entire male community....first of all this reservation is all bullshit....if u speak bout equality then keepin reservations is a contradiction...secondly it enforces the opinion tht women r the weaker sex which is highly criticised by women revolutionaries:-).....anyway at least u got to kno that looks can b deceptive....keep postin true incidents....gl...

Well I was once travelling my bus and I was firmly told my aldy to stand up as it wasladies seat..
U should do the same..
About male thing...I think it was uur foot! ;) or u r really beautiful.!
stop being a paranoid dear...no one out there is desperate to rape you. and even if they were, considering the country population, ur turn is waaaaay away....next to never!!
and i do believe that in a country where there are more men than women, seats should be eserved for men...i knw you secetly agree!
as fo the armpits....i'm sue you have them too! ;-)
and if u work hard someday....u may find the same thing written in someone else's blog, about ur armpits!
yes we know each othe...but u keep guessing!! :-D
@ anonymous..it wud b beter na if u told me who u r!!!!y kip ur identity under wraps???u afraid of me...he he...
@anonymous: u r a CHAUVINIST
well....not afraid of you!
i'm afraid of the pea-brained feminists out there who might see it...and use society's woman-biased laws against me!
we poor honorable men!!
Hi!!I like dis one a lot, too. It's such a simple n sweet incident! dnt undrstnd y so many readers r tryin2 create contrvrsies...
illogical feminism, or misunderstood "chauvinism"....which is stronger today? You decide!
its soooo obvious....
all the men who have commented on this post have criticised you "generalisation" of chauvinism.
and all the women have praised you like a goddess.
Lets just say that what Manisha learnt today was that - writing is one of the most politically biased modes of communication. It has no reason, no thought...just ideas and opinions built in one's head due to life's experiences.
Please do not generalise from here on. Not all women are whores, are they ? :-)
hey manisha i am strongly reminded of the poem we had in 9th/10th...i dont remember the title...
the poetess actually tells the man to get up from his seat and then realises that it was a mistake to do so,cos the man's foot was bleeding..
have u been inspired by that poem?
mannnuuuuu!!!!!!
Hey.. did u stop writing?
'your sole arousing his modesty'...That's irony for you!!
would like to say one thing only, y r girls so paranoid of men..they hav this pre-conceived notion that guys are perverts, rogues n wat else...
tho i agree that the guy should hav given up the seat to u...but poor u...broken sole n sumone happens to play the dumb n make u toil....nice story by the way...tho hav to say that this thing has happened to me many times n i've alwayz tried to giv up my seat to the ladies....
not necessarily evry1's a pervert blah blah...but guys can surely stop bhavin lyk chauvinists!!!na??...dats wat i crib about..lyk*washing dishes s not a man's job*,,,,...wat is a man's job then??...gud gesture from u tho...i always hv to tell those idiots to get up!!!..*sighs*
ahhh, this is one common experience.
this school i go to, does not have vans facility, so i haveta travel in a bus and stuff, sigh, what a pain, anyway.. this sorta thing happens every other day.
but frankly speakin, i dont think the whole guy-get-up-whn-women-enter crap is totally fair.
i mean, they got into the bus 1st, they sat, so yea, seat's their's!
only xceptions shld be if the woman is old or pregnant or sumthin like that.
:)
next time u see smthn lyk that...just kick the guys arse and ask him to move off..
women have their own 'social weapons' u kno...*out of experience* haha
rawk on...
other day i got into a bus and cudnt find a seat.dats when my friend asked two men to get off from ladies resrvd seat.wat surprised me was that we were right in 'middle' of da bus.there were so many seats reserved for oldies and women..i agree wid devendra..and wid aus!
again u cannot call a man CHAUVINIST just becoz he dint offer u a seat...travel in a second class,u'd realise females are chauvinists too.u gotto fight if u think da seat is yours!!
